The Timelines page is a quick reference for the timelines for the student. It will also be the starting point to initiate consent for evaluation, initial eligibility and IEP meetings, as well as annual review and reevaluations. It is the area that will allow you to set up a student with the Timelines Override and allows you to Exit a student that has withdrawn. Certain dates related to special education are state mandated. This application helps you to report correct dates based on other events in the case.

  1. The demographic area will provide the user with the information about the student, including name, GTID, DOB, and the primary and secondary disability categories for the student from the current eligibility and IEP. The primary disability is designated on the IEP.
  2. The Due Dates will provide the due date for the eligibility and IEP. For an initial eligibility and IEP, these due dates are based on the local system calendar.
  3. Override timeline dates section will allow the user to complete the timeline override or view the timeline override after it has been submitted. Once submitted, the Timeline override link will change to VIEW OVERIDE TIMELINE DATES.

    • The date the signed parent consent to evaluate is received is recorded as Event 2 for student records.

    • Once these dates are entered, a link will appear for Start Initial Eligibility. A due date will appear, and you have up to 60 days to complete the evaluation for the student. This due date will be configured to the local calendar and will skip days when school is not in session for 5 or more consecutive days. Also, the due date will pause for summer break according to state regulations.

  • After the student has been found eligible for IEP services, the dates of the initial evaluation (Event 3) and initial eligibility (Event 4) in special education for Georgia are recorded for student records. Districts have an additional 30 calendar days to develop and implement the IEP.
  • In the past, the IEP was developed and FAPE was offered prior to asking a parent for consent to provide services. However, we were advised by OSEP that we should not require the development of an IEP or SP if a parent does not want their child to be served at all. Therefore, we have revised the procedure for obtaining this consent.

oA district is not required to develop an IEP or SP if a parent is certain they are not interested in their child receiving services.

oA parent is not required to sign consent for services prior to the development of the initial IEP. An IEP or SP may need to be developed for a parent prior to requiring them to sign the consent form.

oParents should be made aware that the Consent for Provision of Special Education and Related Services is not consent for only those services offered in the initial IEP but is consent for the special education and related services recommended by the IEP team in all future IEPs unless the parent revokes consent.

  1. Prior to the initial IEP (Event 5) being finalized, an audit will require consent for services (event 14) to be documented on the Timelines page in the consent for services box. The consent form can be accessed here, and then the answer that is recorded, along with the date entered in the Date Received box, will record Event 12 if consent was NO, or Event 14 if consent was YES.

    • A Start Initial IEP link will appear after the Eligibility Report is finalized. A second due date will show you how much time is left. After the Initial IEP is completed, an annual review must be held no more than a year later; a re-determination must be made no more than 3 years late.
