Reevaluation Process Waiver (Event 15)

  • A reevaluation must occur at least once every three years, unless the parent and the public agency agree that a reevaluation is unnecessary. This guidance is available in the Q & A from OSEP from February 2007.
  • The opportunity for a parent and the public agency to agree that a reevaluation is unnecessary occurs BEFORE a reevaluation begins.
  • A parent and a public agency may agree that a reevaluation is unnecessary before the review of existing evaluation data occurs.
  • The review of existing data is part of the reevaluation process and does not occur if the parent and public agency agree that a reevaluation is unnecessary.
  • The ability to use this option is now available in GO-IEP. We do not feel this option will be widely used, but we do need to make this available.
  • The guidance does not define “who” is able to agree to this process on behalf of the public agency. This decision will be a local decision.
  • In GO-IEP, we are currently limiting access to this option so that it is only available to system administrators. We plan to add the ability for system administrators to also make this option available to school administrators and special education teachers in the future. We would like your input as we prioritize our backlog list of enhancements.
    • Please let us know if this is a feature that is a HIGH, MIDDLE, or LOW priority for you.

The Start Reevaluation Waiver link can be seen on the timelines page by System Admin only. This link can be opened by System Admin and then the case manager can complete and finalize the document.

  • The Reevaluation Waiver does not require a meeting and no data should be reviewed. If you are reviewing data to decide, this should be documented in a Reevaluation Data Review which can also be done informally with the parent by selecting that option in the response for the meeting notice.

To begin the Reevaluation Process Waiver:

On the Timelines Page, under the link to Start Reevaluation Data Review, System Administrators will see a new link that will say Start Reevaluation Waiver. If this process is started, the link value will change to Reevaluation Waiver in Process and the Reevaluation Data Review link will be disabled so the teacher will not start that process while a waiver is being completed.

A Reevaluation Process Waiver does not create a meeting notice since the waiver does not require a meeting. The waiver will be available for editing on the Eligibility and Reevaluation Tab.

A warning to confirm will appear.

If this was started in error, simply select NO

Otherwise, select YES and continue.

Inside the Reevaluation Waiver form, GO-IEP will have a DISCARD button (like in the math rubric) in case it is started in error.

The Reevaluation Process Waiver will open. By default, the form will be dated using the date the process was started. That date is editable.

Eligibility categories cannot be changed through a Reevaluation Process Waiver, therefore the eligibilities shown on the most recent eligibility document automatically populate in the waiver to continue eligibility.

The student and the parents will appear in the waiver form as participants. They can be deleted if they did not participate in the decision. No other team member will be automatically included, but they can be added using the ADD ATTENDEE link. If you want to include someone who is not already a team member, you will need to add that person as a team member first.

The only required participant other than the parent is at least one Public Agency Representative. At least one participant must be shown in the waiver as a Public Agency Representative

Meeting notes (Comments) are not required, but there is a field for meeting notes

Everyone who participated in making this decision should be included as a participant. The best practice would be for each participant to sign the document.

The Reevaluation Process Waiver cannot be finalized until the signed document has been uploaded.

After the document has been uploaded, select Finalize.

The waiver may also be saved to finalize later or discarded if created in error.

If saved to complete later, it will be located on the Elig/Reevaluation tab to edit.

The waiver can then be printed by selecting the Print Reevaluation Waiver button at the top of the page.

After it is finalized, it will show in the Elig/Reevaluation table as Reevaluation Waiver with the new reevaluation due date and a status of active.
