1. Starting the Amendment: After selecting the "Amend IEP"  for an active IEP, an amendment meeting notice and amendment become available. The amendment is a copy of the full active IEP. Anything within the IEP can be changed as needed. Exception: Per state and federal regulations, the end date of an amendment cannot exceed the allowable end date for the parent IEP. An IEP cannot be "EXTENDED" through the amendment. The IEP amendment will be Audited and Finalized like any other IEP. Once finalized, the amendment becomes the active IEP and feeds to all reports. An amendment can be later amended as needed.

The "Amend IEP" button will show for an IEP which has reached the ACTUAL end date of services in that IEP but has not yet reached the maximum allowable end date for that IEP.

For example, if an IEP was written on 2/2/16 and only included services through 5/31/16, the AMEND button will show until 2/1/17.

  1. Revise the Meeting Notice (Meeting Date/Time, Location, Purpose, Parental Rights, and Meeting Attendees): THIS IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT STEP to avoid having to reenter all progress report notes that have already been entered for the active IEP.  You must submit the Meeting Notice and record the parent response once received.

  1. Finalize the Amendment: Follow the same process to finalize the amendment as with the annual review. Before the Amendment can be finalized, any open progress reports associated with the previous IEP will have to be finalized or inactivated.  See Progress Reports--- Progress Reports- New IEPs and Amendments for more information.

  1. The Printed version of the amendment has an additional field to show the parent IEP meeting date and amendment meeting date.   The amendment meeting date is not collected for the extract to be used for state reporting of Student Records (SR).

Special Note:  For the Amendment meeting notice there is an additional response option that can be used allowing the Amendment to be completed without a formal meeting.  When finalizing an amendment that was completed without a formal meeting, if the parent is not marked as present, an audit error is being generated since the services are starting before the parent is notified of the changes.  An amendment can be made to the current IEP if the parent(s) and the LEA agree to not convene a formal meeting for the purpose of amending the IEP.  During the Audit/ Finalize process for the amendment, GO-IEP is asking who attended this informal meeting.  Since the parents are equally involved in the decisions for the amendment of the IEP, they should be marked as attending, just as the special education teacher and the general education teacher might be. Doing this will eliminate this audit error.
